TEAPOT OF THE WEEK
Teapot and Cover, 1936, Gray’s Pottery, Staffordshire, England, earthenware, Victoria and Albert Museum.
Gray’s Pottery was founded in Staffordshire in 1907. Hand decorated patterns made up the bulk of the thousands of designs produced by the firm. Although much smaller than the more mainstream potteries in Staffordshire, Gray’s Pottery carved out a place for itself on the international market. Many of the firms designs could be found in national and international exhibitions of design.
This teapot displays the distinctive hand painted appearance which Gray’s Pottery was known for. The shape of the teapot is completely no-nonsence and functional, while the charming pink flower design provides a much needed pop of colour and detail.
